What is an alarm in 1 hour good for?
One hour is a natural block of time: meetings, soccer matches, classes, therapy sessions. Setting an alarm for 60 minutes from now gives you a reference for when what you just started will end.
How is it different from a 1 hour timer?
We also have a 60-minute timer with a visual countdown. The relative alarm is better if you want to know "at what exact time will it ring?".

Will the alarm ring if the tab is in the background?
Yes, the alarm rings even if the tab is in the background or minimized, as long as the browser stays open. The internal tick uses absolute timestamps rather than counters, so it survives background tab throttling.
What is the difference between an alarm in 60 minutes and a timer?
An alarm in 60 minutes calculates the exact time it will ring (current time + 60 minutes) and alerts you at that clock time, like an alarm clock. A timer counts down 60 minutes regardless of what time it is. If you want to know "at what exact time will it ring?", use this page. If you prefer watching a countdown, use the timer.
If I set an alarm for 60 minutes from now, will it keep working if I switch tabs?
Yes. The alarm uses the system clock and absolute timestamps, not a counter that stalls when you switch tabs. As long as the browser stays open, the alarm will ring even if the tab is not visible.
